Queenstown

New Zealand's winter playground is also a fantastic summertime destination. It caters to both the thrill seeker (earning a reputation as the Thrill Seeking Capital of the World) and those looking for a more leisurely retreat.

Nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, beneath the Southern Alps, this wonderful city offers a small village charm mixed with world class accomodation and facilities.

There's gold in the hills, ghosts in the old towns, trout in the streams, the streets are paved with shops, cafes and restaurants, and it all comes with million dollar views for free.

Things To Do:

Bungy Jumping: The spiritual home of Bungy Jumping, this is where it all started. You can experience the original Bungy experience at AJ Hackett's famous Kawarau Bridge operation or for the more adventurous there is the Nevis Highwire which at 134m is one of the highest in the world.

Gondola Ride: The famous Skyline Gondola offers spectacular views over the Queenstown area, where you can relax at the top for a meal or drink.

Jet Boat Rides: A number of different options available here with the world famous Shootover Jet among those catering for the adrenalin junkie, while for those after a more sedate experience, Dart River Safaris offers a wilderness experience

Arrowtown: An authentic goldmining town, Arrowtown is known for its relaxed, laidback lifestyle. Faithfully restored gold-miners' wooden buildings and a reconstructed town centre all add to the ambience for this delightful village. Only 20 minutes from Queenstown.

Wanaka: About an hours drive from Queenstown, Lake Wanaka's spectacular mountain and lake views will take your breath away. The area has unique wilderness, lake, river and alpine based activities. Soak up all the atmosphere of the lakes and mountains in one of the splendid restaurants, bars, cafes or taverns.

TSS Earnslaw: No visit to Queenstown would be complete without a lake cruise on the Earnslaw - a genuine steam boat that will take you up Lake Wakatipu, into the Glenochy region.
